Let GOD Be GOD!

We have finally reached the end of 2021. Planning to enter year 2022 reminds us of the admonition in the Bible found in James Chapter 4. Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog – – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.’ In other words, don’t bother about making a whole lot of plans, just Let GOD Be GOD!

God Our Heavenly Father

What does it mean to Let GOD Be GOD? Let’s ask Jesus. In Matthew Chapter 7, Jesus gives us a glimpse of who God is when He compares Him to our earthly fathers. He states that if a child asks for a fish, his or her earthly father will not give him or her a snake. Or if a child asks for bread, an earthly father will not respond with a stone. Jesus teaches us that if human fathers with their sinful natures know how to provide for their children, then we should expect that God the Father will respond in an even greater way to our requests. After all He is the One Who gave His one and only Son so that we could have eternal life. In other words, we have a heavenly Father Who only wants the best for us and will only give us His best. Letting GOD Be GOD in 2022 will move us from self-reliance to dependence upon GOD as our Heavenly Father.

Second, Letting GOD Be GOD in our lives will require us to see Him through the eyes of Abraham, the Patriarch.  https://www.gotquestions.org/life-Abraham.html.

The Bible tells Abraham’s remarkable story. Married to Sarah, the couple had no children during their biological child-bearing years. However, God gave them a son once they passed those years. God then tested Abraham by telling him to take Isaac, his son, and offer him as a sacrifice. Abraham did not hesitate. He took Isaac and prepared to offer him up to God. Suddenly he heard a voice from heaven. The voice told Abraham not to harm his son because he had passed the test. Then Abraham saw a ram that he could offer to God. Abraham called the place where he saw the ram, Jehovah-jireh, because God had provided the sacrifice. Jehovah-jireh literally means The LORD will provide. For Abraham, this was the place where God became his provider.

Trusting Jehovah-jireh

As Christians, we know that faith in God is critical in our daily walk with Him. We also know that worrying about our needs and wants interrupts our faith. Worry can lead us to doubt God. If we are going to Let GOD Be GOD, we must exercise our faith to see God as our Jehovah-jireh.

It can be said that some of us trust God to provide when it comes to certain things but not in everything. Trusting God as Jehovah-jireh means that we do not pick and choose the situations when or where we will trust Him to provide. Instead, we follow Jesus’ teachings in Matthew, Chapter 6 – – refusing to worry about anything. How can we get to this point? Simply put, by learning Who God Is – – Dr. Charles Stanley in The Life Principles Daily Bible explains it this way – – God doesn’t tell us to stop worrying over food, shelter and clothing because we don’t really need them. He knows we need them. We can stop worrying because He has promised to take care of the essentials. Letting GOD Be GOD in 2022 will require us to depend upon God to keep His promises while believing that He will provide us with His best.

The Father, Son and Holy Ghost

Finally, Letting GOD Be GOD in our lives calls for a total surrender to God. Nothing can be more important than our relationship with God as our Heavenly Father. Jesus signaled the importance of this relationship with the Father when He taught us the Lord’s prayer as the model for prayer. In 2022, Letting GOD Be GOD means acknowledging the sovereignty of God as our Heavenly Father and surrendering to His will.

Does acknowledging God as sovereign and submitting to His will mean that we will not face challenges in 2022? No, it does not. But instead, it means that every challenge that we face; every situation that we may find ourselves in; God will be there with us and for us.

Our surrender to God the Father must also include a surrender to Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Jesus is our risen Savior Who has experienced everything that we will experience in our lifetimes. And now He intercedes for us with the Father daily.  And then finally, let us not forget the Holy Ghost.  When we Let GOD Be GOD in 2022, we are inviting the Holy Ghost into our lives. He will be a guide, a comfort and support to us.

We invite you to join with us in our New Year’s resolution and Let GOD Be GOD in 2022!
