The Secret to Facing Life . . .

Imagine you are locked up, under house arrest, just for being obedient to God. That was the plight of the Apostle Paul. His crime? Defending and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet instead of becoming despondent, distressed, or angry – because after all, hadn’t he done what God had commanded him to do? Paul used his time to write a letter of encouragement to his brothers and sisters in Christ. The Secret to Facing Life . . .

The Apostle Paul’s Advice

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. What was he saying to the believers? The Secret to Facing Life is . . .

. . . First, control your thinking with the Word of God – whatever is right and confirmed by God’s Word – think continually on those things. Shut the devil down when he tries to infiltrate your mind with lies and half-truths. You will not win when you argue with the devil. Respond like Jesus – Man shall not live by bread alone, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  https://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-temptations.html

Second, force your mind to travel back to the mercy and grace that God has shown you in the past. Use your memory of the awesome things that God has already done for you to empower you in the present and give you confidence in the future. Although the enemy may have incarcerated the Apostle Paul physically, he could not incarcerate him mentally. Paul knew the nature of God. Spend time learning who the Son of God is – Jesus the Christ. And then believe that He never changes. Jesus is and always will be the same today, yesterday and forever.  https://godhasspokenministries.com/2025/07/25/god-cares/

Third, Are you able to say no to any thought or action that is not right and/or confirmed by God’s word? That is part of The Secret to Facing Life. Standing your ground. Paul reminds us that there is nothing that we cannot do when we line up with the will of God and rely on the strength of Jesus Christ. Get rid of weights that sap your strength. Say no to any thought or action that is not right and/or confirmed by God’s word. Even if you have to separate yourself from people, events and/or activities in your life – it will be all right. https://godhasspokenministries.com/2024/06/19/are-you-moving-in-the-right-direction/

Finally

The last component of The Secret to Facing Life is to recognize that you can choose to complain or not to complain. You can choose to be grateful or ungrateful.

Have you ever flown on an airplane? If not, just use your imagination. You paid extra to board in that priority group and for that seat with the extra leg room. Arriving at the gate, your plan is to be one of the first to board. It doesn’t happen. Active military, babies, the elderly and even younger people needing extra time and assistance get on before you.

Finally, you’re on board. But there, sitting in your seat is a mother with a baby. Her husband and toddler are sitting in the two remaining seats in your row. She looks at you after you tell her that she is sitting in your assigned seat and says, If I have to move, my baby (the toddler) will start to cry. Although you want to respond in an ungodly manner, you move down the aisle and flop into the middle seat – her seat that required no extra payment – ten rows back. Settling in between two strangers, you close your eyes as the plane takes off. A safe flight and to be left alone is your prayer.

About an hour into the flight you awaken to the plane shaking (turbulence), people screaming and babies crying. You have had enough! But will you be so foolish as to try to get up and open the doors of the plane because you have had enough? Absolutely not! Instead, I surmise that you will adjust your attitude and remain buckled in your seat on the airplane until it has landed.
