The G.O.A.T.?

Every now and then we hear the term, The G.O.A.T. Muhammed Ali’s wife was one of the first to use this term. She called her husband The G.O.A.T. even as he himself declared that he was The Greatest. Simon Biles has a picture of a goat on her leotards as a symbol of her prowess in gymnastics. According to sports news, Michael Jordan has called himself The G.O.A.T. of basketball. Tom Brady has been named The G.O.A.T. of football. The title G.O.A.T. might be given to Hippocrates for his medical accomplishments. Possibly Merle Haggard or Dolly Parton might be considered The G.O.A.T. of country music.

This is a title that is coveted by many. It can also be a little tricky. The title can shift from one person to another in the same category depending upon whom you ask or when you ask the question, Who is The G.O.A.T. of . . .?

As believers, we could say that we have The TRUE G.O.A.T. There is no disputing Jesus’ greatness. Yet we choose not to give Him this title. For one, goats are idolized in other religions. And two, Matthew 25 calls unbelievers, goats.

As we started to write this conversation, our focus was on Jesus as our G.O.A.T. But we quickly realized that He is so much greater than what the title implies. There is no other human being who could have done the works that Jesus did or achieved His accomplishments.

Simply The Greatest

  • Mary Magdalene would say that He was the greatest exorcist. She had seven devils. He cast them all out. (Luke 8:1-2)
  • The Samaritan woman at the well would call Him the greatest pastor. He did not condemn her for her many husbands or her present living situation. Instead, He taught her proper worship. (John 4:5-30)
  • Blind Bartimaeus would call him the greatest ophthalmologist. Only Jesus could give eyesight to him. (Luke 10:46-52)
  • The bridegroom at Cana would call him the greatest vintner. He ran out of what he thought was the best wine until he tasted Jesus’ wine. (John 2:1-11)

And There’s More . . .

  • Lazarus would call Him the greatest friend. He shouted, Lazarus, come forth! And Lazarus came back from the dead. (John 11:1-44)
  • Zacchaeus, a thief would call Him the greatest encourager. Jesus went to his house and shared a meal with him while others in the faith community looked down on him. (Luke 19:1-10)
  • And let’s not forget Saul, the killer of the Christians. He would call Him the greatest saving voice ever. For Jesus met Saul on his way to Damascus where he intended to arrest the Christians for their belief in Jesus as their Savior. (Acts 9:1-19)

No, we will not call Him a G.O.A.T. but we know, no one can compare to Him. His record will never be surpassed. In addition to having an unsurpassable record, He also operates globally. Jesus cannot be confined to time or space. Unlike many of those given the title of The G.O.A.T., He is humble. He never did anything to satisfy His own ego. Jesus’ sole purpose was to glorify God the Father.

Do You Really Know Him?

We’re sure that you know most of the G.O.A.T.s. But do you really know JESUS? Isaiah 53:5 tells us that our sins ripped and tore and crushed him . . . He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. (MSG) https://www.gotquestions.org/wounded-for-our-transgressions.html

Jesus has not changed from the time that He walked this earth. He is still available to help us in any situation. The Bible tells us that we can be sure that God will take care of everything [we] need, his generosity exceeding [everyone else] in the glory that pours from Jesus. (Philippians 4:19, MSG).

Do you have a need? Just ask Jesus. It does not matter what you need. He is able. And He is waiting to hear from you.
